Sunless Spray Tan Tips & FAQs

There are clear and bronze solution options available in different spray tan levels of color development which are: Light, Medium, or Dark. Clear solution sprays on completely clear and takes 6-8 hours for any color to develop. Bronze solution sprays on with immediate visible results and continues to develop over the hours.

Prep spray is optional but included with the price of all spray tans. It is a skincare mist applied immediately at the start of the spray tan to cleanse the skin, balance its pH, and remove invisible barriers like oils, deodorant, or sweat. It ensures the tanning solution adheres evenly for a flawless, streak-free result.

Our spray booth includes a built-in, automated, heated drying sessions. The booth will blow warm air over your entire body periodically to set the prep mist, each solution application, and any add-on options selected. The machine verbally instructs you when to turn or move so all sides dry evenly during your session.

Double Dark is an addon that is formulated to deliver an ultra-dark, deep bronze color. It is for individuals who want intense results or have olive skin tones or warm brown undertones to prevent an unnatural finish. Because it contains a higher concentration of DHA (spray tan) and cosmetic bronzers, keep that in mind to achieve a flawless, natural finish.

 Hydrate spray is an addon that can be applied during the spray tan process. Hyaluronic acid and Tri-Hydro Boost is used to replenish moisture and fix the skin's barrier. Spray tans work by developing on the top layer of skin. Moisturized and hydrated skin prevents dry skin from shedding faster, taking your glow with it, and causing the tan to crack.

Blending lotion - for dry skin and to develop natural looking hands and feet. Hair net - to keep hair off of the skin and prevent lines from loose hair strands. Nose plugs and eye guards - to prevent inhaling of any mist. Sticky flops (not included) - stick directly to the bottom of feet to prevent color from developing on the bottoms. All accessories are available at request.

 Sunless tanning is the spray/mist application of Sunless Tanning Solution to your body.  When applied, DHA (The active ingredient in Sunless Tanning Solution) reacts with the proteins in the skin's superficial layer to form a golden brown color.  Your skin begins to darken 2-3 hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours.  The color will naturally fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun. 

• Exfoliate and shave the day before or the day of your session.
• The day of your session refrain from using moisturizers, perfumes, lotions, oils or deodorants that may create a barrier between your skin and the solution. 
• Wear darker loose clothing and bring a hair tie

Absolutely! We carry a line of take-home products that were created to enhance and extend Spray Tanning results.  **Over the counter products that are not specifically designed for Sunless Tanning may block the tan's application, impede the development process and may create uneven fading.**

A Sunless Spray Tan can last up to 5 - 7 days depending on the formulation you choose and the condition of your skin. Taking care of your spray and being mindful of the product you use can also extend the life of it.

To give the DHA enough time to fully set, we recommend waiting a minimum of 4 hours after your session or 8 hours for optimal results.  Showering too soon may diminish the intensity of the tan.  If you tanned using an Instant Cosmetic Color option it will wash off in the shower, but the color produced by the DHA will remain.

When you do shower make sure you use a very gentle body wash/soap with NO fragrance and low suds.  Any other type of soap will strip away your color and/or make your tan uneven and splotchy.  Avoid using any type of exfoliant during the life of your tan (loofah sponge or poof/rough washcloth).  When your tan is gone then do a full body exfoliation.

The Sunless Solution offers a bronze formula to see results right away or a clear formula where you will start to see results in 8-12 hours. Both formulas take approximately 24 hours to reach peak color.

A Sunless tan will not prevent your skin from burning in the natural sun or in a tanning bed, like a base tan will.  Please take the proper precautions when tanning with UV light exposure indoors or out.  We will be able to assist you if you choose cocktail tanning. 

Cocktail tanning is when you tan in a UV bed immediately before spray tanning.  The UV rays trigger the melanin production, while opening your pores and allow the sunless solution to penetrate your skin.  This produces an even darker, deeper and longer-lasting tan. 

The solution is completely water soluble.  You may notice some initial cosmetic color on the inside of your clothes, but this color will wash out in cold water, however DHA in the tanning formula may permanently stain what you wear during your session.

Not at all.  Before Sunless Spray Tanning, most self-tanners were creams and lotions applied by hand.  That meant inconsistent coverage.  Too much applied in one place left the skin looking orange and not enough lotion left unattractive streaks. Sprays give an even, 360-degree coverage that prevents that.

Some people notice a slight starchy smell on their skin a few hours after a tanning session.  This is simply the DHA reacting to proteins in your skin and it fades away fairly quickly.  We have different aromas that can be added to your session. This is one of the add-ons available for purchase.

Swimming in chlorinated or salt water can fade the Sunless Spray results, cause possible streaking and will diminish the length of your tan.  However, normal activities such as bathing, showering or physical activities will not affect the quality of your tan.
